Dare
Amy Freitas
Going through life following the herd
Not to be noticed not to be heard
Being different is our greatest fear
To the rules of the group we must adhere
Categorized and stereotyped to fit in
But no one ever looks past our shape and skin
Everyone has to have a place
But how can they judge just by a face?
How do they know who we can be?
Based solely off what they can see?
Are we supposed to just go along?
And force ourselves to belong?
Not one willing to stand up and speak
All so worried they’ll be labeled freak
Tied down by conformity
Assigned a place in society
Why fit an image someone else has made?
Of being ourselves why are we so afraid?
Why must we do what we are told?
Why can’t we break free of the mold?
What is it like to be noticed and found?
To no longer blend into the background?
What is it like to turn away?
To walk your own path and forge you own way?
It is time to be someone new
Dare to be different; be you
