A Mother
Hansaa Gopalakrishnan
It was a dark and lonely night
Only a woman was in sight
She wore a dress, a jacket, and a hat
She was a sad sight to look at
She walked around block after block
As time went by, tick tock, tick tock
As she walked she began to shake
Tears rolled down her cheeks and her eyes began to ache
She finally stopped and sat down
As tears drenched her tattered gown
She thought about her sad story
Her life in all its sad glory
She remembered her family, a small but happy one
A family that had been undone
But the thing she thought of most
Was the child she had held so close
The child she loved and adored
The child she had left at a nearby door
She had given her child one last kiss
A kiss she would forever miss
But times were hard and she had no home
She wiped her tears and began to roam
She had left her child at a safe place
A place where she would be embraced
She had left her child with her brother
This woman was my mother.
