Snorkeling
The steady beating inside me grew faster
As I gazed at the sea before me.
Its waves dancing to rhythm against the blue sky,
As the air turned colder and colder.
My wet hand clutched the firm one beside me,
As a smile returned my anxious look.
We waddled like ducks, in the wet blanket of sand,
Towards the beckoning water in front
Letting out breath, I looked at my father,
Who tightened his grip on my cold, moist hand.
The roar of the wind escaping my ears.
Down, down, down, we plunged…
Waves enveloping around, sealing me tight
My eyes see nothing but a screen of blue
Water plants swaying to an invisible beat.
Searching, pining, looking, But none…
With a heavy heart, I catch the sky,
But return to a soft cry of delight.
Among the scene of blurry blue-green
A yellow smudge is visible,
Slowly piecing together, forming…A fish!
Heart lifting, eyes shining,
I swim silently around.
Two orange fish swim play tag through my legs,
Fish, starfish, sea creatures everywhere,
Colors bursting like happy fireworks
Fish bustling around, like a busy city.
I feel like a mermaid, swimming with fish.
My fear drains out, and…
I leave it behind, ready for adventure…
