Last Kiss
Brittany Pettibone
A man espies his lover
Lying helpless on the ground
Lavished in color red
Her essence nearly drowned
He quickly stumbles closer
And from her face he clears
Some restless strands of hair
That lie amidst her bleeding ears
His face is stained with anguish
As he strokes her shattered corpse
He holds her in his arms so tight
That even death feels remorse
For depriving from the earth
Yet another stainless love
His cries are heard so loud that night
That the heavens quake above
With a pain that soaks him through
He kisses her bleeding head
And finally lets her go
Join the dances of the dead
Her eyes tell him goodbye
In a way that bleeds his pain
And as she drops her head and dies
He knows he’ll never love again
His love for her is one that is
So far from being quenched
He loses her amidst his stroke
Leaving every movement clenched
His head is hung in sorrow
And his voice is choked with tears
He lifts her lifeless body
Walks away and disappears
