Such Paradox
Sylvia Li
And with the drizzle came the rain
I stay hidden behind a fence so no one can complain
Eating a thin, Hershey’s bar
As my mind drifts off to afar.
One of the rare moments of escape, recluse
From work, sweat, tears – a time to let loose
Perched on my bike, umbrella-ed under a tree
That seems so lonely, unsure, bending to wind, just like me.
It rains in the sun, such paradox
All time defying motion, stopping the clocks
That I should be here with so much to do and too much done
Such paradox, this rain in the sun.
Yet in this scene, comes the rainbow
Softened by clouds, the sun giving its halo
The tree above me breathes, the soil sighs as I step
Towards this colored phenomenon to which I am in debt.
I give it my stress, my worry, my fear
As it drops knowledge and wisdom one does not often hear
With the value of melting silver, this rain says to me
You are done, go home, you will be happy.
This rain I trust, this advice I take
For here I am, I am alive, I can celebrate
My troubles fled, my mistakes have run
Such paradox, this rain in the sun.
