The
Santa Clara County Library offers wireless access (aka "hot
spots" & "WiFi" ) at all Santa Clara
County Libraries for patrons to use with their own personal
notebooks, laptops, and other mobile devices. These access
points are accessible during normal library hours. (Internet
access is shut off 15 minutes prior to closing). A valid
Santa Clara County Library card and PIN are required. Access
in the children's room is filtered.
A
patron's use of this service is governed by Santa
Clara County Library's Internet Services Policy.
All users are expected to use the Library's wireless access
in a legal and responsible manner, consistent with the educational
and informational purposes for which it is provided.
Printing access is not available via the wireless connection.
If you need to print, please save your work to a floppy disk
or email files to yourself. You may then login to a wired
library workstation and send jobs to the public printer.
Due to the proliferation of WiFi networks, Library users
may also be able to access other WiFi networks within a Library
that are not provided by Santa Clara County Library. Use
of these non-Santa Clara County Library wireless networks
within the Library's facilities is also governed by Santa
Clara County Library's Internet Policy.
As with most public wireless "hot spots," the Library's
wireless connection is not secure. Information being transmitted
could potentially be intercepted by another wireless user.
Wireless users may choose not to transmit personal information
(credit card numbers, passwords and any other sensitive information)
while using any wireless "hot spot." Please take
appropriate precautions when using this service.
Library staff can provide general information or handouts
for connecting your device to the wireless network, but cannot
troubleshoot problems related to your wireless device or
assist in making changes to your device's network settings
and/or hardware configuration. The Library cannot guarantee
that your device will work with the Library's wireless network.
All wireless access users are encouraged to have up-to-date
virus protection on their laptop computers or wireless devices.
The Library is not responsible for any information (e.g.
credit card) that is compromised, or for any damage caused
to your hardware or software such as electric surges, security
issues or consequences caused by viruses or hacking.
