Obituary Searches
Free to Santa Clara County Library Patrons
Santa
Clara County Library patrons can continue to request obituary
searches of local newspapers using our Ask
A Librarian Form. This service is provided at no charge
to our patrons. It is helpful to provide the date of death
when requesting this service. You can verify the name and
the date of death using California
Death Records (1940-1997) and/or the Social
Security Death Index. You may also obtain obituaries
or death notices yourself by going to your local library
to perform your search. General information on finding
your own obituaries is contained in San Jose Public Library's How
To Research San José Area Obituaries and in
the Obituaries
and Death Notices page of the BALIS/PLS/SVLS System
Reference Center.
Out
of Area and Out of State Searchers (Fee-Based
Service)
Out
of area and out of state users may take advantage of a
new fee based service provided by the BALIS/PLS/SVLS System
Reference Center. Information about this service is available
on the System
Reference Obituaries and Death Notices page. The cost
is $20.00 for each search of each name per paper. Please
see the Obituary Order
Form page to request obituary searches online, directly
from the System Reference Center, or to request obituary
searches by US Mail from the System Reference Center.
Please do
not send your requests to Santa Clara County Library but directly to
the address provided by System Reference Center System.
