Santa Clara County Library Exhibit Policy
Los Altos Library

As a responsibility of service, the Santa Clara County Library encourages exhibits of interest, information and enlightenment for all the people of the community. Exhibits presenting controversial issues (i.e. political, religious and social) must present opposing views. In no case will exhibits be excluded because of the race or nationality or the social, political or religious views of the exhibitors.

This exhibit policy agrees with the concepts of the Library Bill of Rights as adopted and amended by the American Library Association and approved by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors February 5, 1991.

Information for Exhibitors

The Los Altos Library has three exhibit areas: the Art Wall, an octagonal case, and two wall cases in the lobby.

Bookings
Exhibits in the octagonal case and wall cases are normally scheduled for a one-month period of time. Bookings may be made no further than one year in advance. Art works exhibited on the Art Wall are juried by the Library Arts Committee once a year and are chosen for an exhibit during the coming year. The library reserves the right to reschedule exhibits. If there are numerous requests for exhibit space, new exhibitors will take precedence.

At the time of booking, the exibitors may be requested to bring in a sample of the articles to be displayed for approval by the librarian and/or reviewing committee. Any materials to be distributed to the public in conjunction with the display must also be approved at this time.

Insurance
All exhibitors must complete a Santa Clara County Library Exhibit Agreement before the exhibit is brought to the library.

Publicity:
If publicity is desired, the exhibitor may be asked to submit a written article to the librarian two weeks prior to the exhibit date, or to complete a publicity check sheet. The Library Arts Committee provides publicity for Art Wall exhibits.

Sales:
The library does not participate in commerical sales. It will make the Exhibit Agreement listing item values and exhibitor's telephone number available to all interested persons.

Exhibit Preparation:
1. The library assumes no responsibility for providing materials or special assistance to the exhibitor in setting up exhibits.Works of art on the Art Wall are hung by the Library Arts Committee.
2. Walls, pillars or other structures may not be defaced in any way. The library provides hangers for the Art Wall. The shelves in the octagonal case may not be moved.

4. Exhibitors must provide their own printed or typed identifying labels.
5. No prices should be affixed to items. Prices of works of art on the Art Wall, if for sale, are found in the art binder near the exhibit.

1. If works of art or other items are available for sale, the County assumes no responsibility for loss or damage.

2. If works of art or other items are not for sale, the County assumes responsibility for loss or damage only to the extent that no insurance coverage is available to the exhibitor and then only to the declared value with a maximum of $2,500 for an individual work of art or $9,999 for a total exhibit.

3. Any work of art or other item whose requested insurance value exceeds $1,000 must be approved by the County Librarian before it is accepted for exhibit.
