On January 5th, 2010, Katherine Paterson, author of the Newbery Medal winners, Bridge to Terabithia and Jacob Have I Loved, became the second National Ambassador for Young People's Literature. Appointed by the Librarian of Congress for a two-year term, she has chosen the theme, "Read for Your Life," which highlights her dedication to literacy and life-long learning. In 2008, author Jon Scieszka was named the first National Ambassador for Young People's Literature.
