Computers and Wireless Access:

• First Street Coffee Exchange:

1211 First Street, Gilroy; (408) 842-1340. Free unlimited, high-speed broadband Internet access available to anyone with a PC 802.11b or Apple Airport wireless card installed on a laptop computer.

• Gilroy Library:

Internet and Software:
Gilroy Library currently has twelve computers with Internet access, twenty-seven computers with Microsoft Office including Word (for word-processing), Excel (for spreadsheets), and PowerPoint (for slide presentations); and one Internet computer with enhanced accessibility features. All computers run on the Microsoft XP Professional platform. Computer use is free for patrons and visitors.

Storage:
Please bring a floppy disk formatted for a PC and ask a librarian to assist you in saving your work on our system. We strongly encourage patrons to test our independent floppy drives (or their own personal USB drives) on our system first, before starting any large projects requiring saving to any type of storage media on our computers. Once lost, we are unable to restore your work or files, due to our system configuration.

Currently the library does not offer CD-ROM or DVD drives and has limited USB 2.0 flash drive capability. (To work on our system USB drives must not require uploaded software and must truly be "plug and play." Older USB drives may not work on our system. USB users are cautioned that USB media can be unstable on our hardware. Please back up your USB drive files on another storage device before attempting to use USB devices at the library.)

Wireless:
The library offers two wireless access points: filtered access in the children's area, and, a choice of filtered or unfiltered access in the adult area. No wireless printing services are provided, however patrons can print from floppy disks or USB drives at other Gilroy Library computers.

Sign up for T-Mobile Hotspot "Day Passes" or "Pay as You Go" plans at the T-Mobile Service Plans Web site. T-Mobile wireless access is also available at the Starbuck's Camino Arroyo & Pacheco Pass store, and the Starbuck's Gilroy Outlet Center store.
