A dedicated group of community volunteers, working with city, library, and design team staff established goals and guidelines for the new Gilroy Community Library in 2001.
The designs for a new Gilroy Library includes a two-story structure of more than 52,000 square feet. The planned development will parallel Sixth Street on the current library site, in the heart of residential Gilroy and the City Civic Center complex.
An atrium entryway connects the library with the outdoor paseo and Gilroy City Hall, as well as parking areas facing Sixth Street. This spacious and light-filled entryway allows community services housed in the new library, such as the Friend's bookstore and Vision Literacy, to remain open when the library is closed, and provides additional public gathering space.
An enclosed patio garden on the first floor creates additional program space in the Children's Room. Expanded Circulation, Adult Services, and program rooms allow Gilroy Community Library to increase services and resources and accommodate the needs of this growing community.
