  • Grove Encyclopedia of Classical Art & Architecture
    A comprehensive reference resource for the visual arts of the Classical period. It features an abundance of in-depth articles on this field of enduring importance—from biographies to thematic entries on architecture, ceramics, metalwork, mosaics, painting and sculpture. The resource provides fascinating and authoritative art historical and cultural information about art forms, artists, rulers, philosophers, architecture, renowned works of art, archaeological sites and stylistic developments.
  • Grove Encyclopedia of Decorative Arts
    Contains over 3,000 entries covering thousands of years of decorative arts production throughout western and non-western cultures. Explore the works of Alvar Aalto and Charles and Ray Eames, or learn about the history of Navajo blankets and wing chairs in thousands of entries on artists, craftsmen, designers, workshops, and decorative art forms.

    From the University of California, Santa Barbara, this searchable directory includes general art resources, museums, galleries, auctions, artists and works.
  • The Arts Online
    A comprehensive arts directory, which provides links to arts web pages from around the world.
  • Artnet
    A comprehensive site with links to artists, galleries, and events. The research library has articles from the Grove Dictionary of Art covering artists, materials and techniques, and styles and movements.
  • Art History Resources On the Web
    Organized by time period, this site provides information on the history of art as well as museums and research resources.
  • Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History
    A chronological, geographical, and thematic exploration of the history of art from around the world, created by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
  • Digital Library for the Decorative Arts and Material Culture
    Provides resources for study and research of the decorative arts, with a particular focus on Early America. Included are electronic texts and journals, image databases, and information on organizations, museums and research facilities.
  • Wikimedia Commons
    An online media file repository making available public domain and freely-licensed educational media content (images, sound and video clips). According to the site, “everyone is allowed to copy, use and modify any files here freely as long as they follow the terms specified by the author; this often means crediting the source and author(s) appropriately and releasing copies/improvements under the same freedom to others. The license conditions of each individual media file can be found on their description page. The Wikimedia Commons database itself and the texts in it are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License.
