Below are online resources that can assist you in finding information for your job, career, and testing needs. Access to the catalog is available to everyone, and database access from outside the library requires your Santa Clara County Library card number and Personal Identification Number (PIN). Computers with Internet access and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat are available at your local library.
Databases
- Career Transitions - Career Transitions is an online career guidance center that walks users through the job-search process from beginning to end. 1) explore new career possibilities; 2) assess your interests and experience; 3) identify ways to improve your prospects, including networking and education; 4) prepare for a job search; and 5) search and apply for jobs. Please note: New users will be asked to create a username and password when they first access Career Transitions.

Express -
Contains numerous components including the Job & Career
Accelerator. Over 1,000 occupations can be explored
in detail. Users can search job postings from a database
of more than 5 million up-to-date listings; then they
can create resumes and cover letters, and practice interviewing
skills. The Accelerator also helps people improve work-related
skills and prepare for licensing or certification tests. Another
section of Learning Express will help you prepare for
academic or professional exams online, including the
SAT, ACT, GED, GRE, GMAT, PRAZIS, ASVAB, Cosmetology,
Civil Service, Postal Worker, Law Enforcement, Fire,
California Highway Patrol, and more. Job search and workplace
skill-building courses include business writing, grammar,
vocabulary and spelling, interviewing and resume writing
tutorials. In addition, use the Learning Express Computer
Skills Tutorials to gain proficiency in computer software
applications including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel,
Adobe Acrobat and more. Computer Skills Tutorials are
not MAC OS, Windows Vista, or Firefox compatible. Tests
and courses are also available in Spanish.
- Occupational Outlook Handbook Online - Look up extensive background information on hundreds of occupations including working conditions, training and education, job outlook and sources of additional information. From the U.S. Department of Labor.
- Reference USA - Find residential and business information. The business module contains information on over 13 million U.S. businesses, and the residential module contains information on 120 million U.S. households.
- Vocational and Career Collection - This collection provides full text coverage for nearly 350 trade and industry related periodicals including American Machinist, Modern Machine Shop, Pediatric Nursing, Wireless Week, Drug Store News, Video Business, Reeves Journal, Hotel & Motel Management, Restaurant Business, Advertising Age, and many more.
Catalog Search
The library has hundreds of print resources such as books,
articles, directories, and more. To find groups of similar
materials, use the Subject search in the library catalog.
From the search
page, choose the arrow next to Keyword. Select
the Subject option in the drop down menu and
click the mouse in the text box to the right. Enter a subject
search term; for example, use the name of a test or the
type of materials you want to find. Suggested searches:
Job Hunting, Employment Interviewing, SAT, Resumes, Business
Directories, Career Changes.
