About Your Bookmobile
OUR PURPOSE
The Santa Clara County Library Bookmobile provides personalized,
comprehensive library service to people who may have difficulty
visiting a community library -- including seniors, the physically
limited, children, and geographically remote residents in the
cities of Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Milpitas,
Morgan Hill, Saratoga and the unincorporated areas of Santa
Clara County.
COLLECTION
The Bookmobile carries a range of items including books for children, teens and adults, bestsellers, large-type titles, magazines, talking books, videos, CD's cassettes, DVD's and CD-ROM's. In response to customer interest, materials in Spanish and Russian are also available on the Bookmobile.
PLACING REQUESTS
Items not found on the Bookmobile may be reserved and delivered. Requests can be placed in person, by computer, or by telephone. To place a request by computer, visit our webpage at www.santaclaracountylib.org/bookmobile/BKcatalog.html for instructions on how to access the library catalog form home or work. To place a request by phone, please call the Bookmobile Office at (408) 293-2326 extension 3060.
Once a requested item becomes available, it will be delivered to the customer's regularly scheduled stop. If, due to a holiday or scheduling problem, we are unable to deliver the item at the regular stop, the item will be mailed at no charge.
ROUTES AND STOPS
The selection of stops is based on a variety of factors including distance from a community library, mobility of customers, and service needs. A schedule of routes and stops is published and distributed three times per year: Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer. The Bookmobile visits neighborhoods and institutions, such as pre-schools and nursing care facilities. A stop may be discontinued due to low use, safety considerations, or violations of library policies.
Suggestions of new stops are welcome.
DELIVERIES
In addition to regularly scheduled public stops, the Bookmobile delivers a selection of titles to eligible institutions when a full service stop is not feasible.
CIRCULATION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Items checked out on the Bookmobile may be kept for two weeks, or until the next return visit of the bookmobile to that stop.
In order to accommodate the limited mobility of many of the Bookmobile's customers, no overdue fines are charged. However, items are considered lost when they become six weeks overdue. The cost of the item and a processing fee are charged for lost and damaged items. Unresolved fines and fees may result in the loss of library privileges and/or referral to a billing agency.
Items may be returned to the Bookmobile or any of the libraries in the Santa Clara County Library System.
Most items can be renewed twice. Renewals can be done in person, by telephone at (800) 471-0991, or by accessing your patron record in the Library Catalog via computer.
LIBRARY CARDS
The Santa Clara County Library card may be used on the Bookmobile or at any of the libraries in the Santa Clara County Library Systems. You may apply for a card and establish a personal Identification Number (PIN) in person on the Bookmobile. Please bring identification and verification of mailing address. We will ask you to select a regular Bookmobile stop for the delivery of requested items.
