Internships
We currently are not taking applications for this position.
Program Goal
To promote
public librarianship by providing paid, on-the-job training
for library school students while preparing them to work
as extra-help library interns on Santa Clara County Library
reference desks.
Training
The
training begins with three days of centralized training
on Library mission and values, policies and procedures,
and the catalog. This is followed by four weeks (12 hours
per week) of sheltered reference experience at a community
library working alongside experienced librarians. Training
and experience will include time in both the children's
and adult reference departments, observation of a children's
story time or program, meeting with the Community Library
Supervisor of a library, and becoming familiar with commonly
used print and electronic reference sources. In addition,
special training in collection, outreach, teen services,
and other special projects may be available.
Internship
After
the successful completion of the seventy-two hour training,
qualified candidates will be added to our extra-help roster
as Graduate Library Interns and can work on the reference
desks of the community libraries in our system.
Eligibility and Application
Students
currently enrolled in San Jose State University's School
of Library and Information Science who are interested in
the program should contact Davi Evans at devans@library.sccgov.org. |
