California Advocates for Nursing Reform (CANHR)
CANHR’s long term care advocates assist consumers with long term care options; pre–placement counseling; guidance with Medi–Cal eligibility and estate recovery; resident rights complaints; elder financial abuse problems; and community education on various long term care issues, including alternatives. Nursing Home Guide
CANHR’s online guide has in–depth information on all 1,300+ nursing homes in California, including interactive searches, comparisons and details on violations, complaints and services.
Residential Care Guide
CANHR’s residential care guide includes basic information on RCFEs/Assisted Living in California, including licensing and ownership information, and, for those facilities who responded to our survey, basic information about services provided.
California Department of Aging
The California Department of Aging contracts with and provides
leadership and direction to Area Agencies on Aging (AAA)that
coordinate a wide array of services to seniors and adults
with disabilities at the community level and serve as the
focal point for local aging concerns. You can locate
the Agency on Aging in your area by calling 1-800-510-2020
or find your county phone number by going to the website.

Caregiver Resource Centers
Eleven centers throughout the state offer specialized information,
respite care, legal & financial consultation, support groups,
and family consultations for families and friends who are
caring for adults with chronic, disabling health conditions.
Heart of the Valley, Services for Seniors
This non-profit, publicly supported organization is committed
to supporting independent living for
seniors who reside in West Santa Clara Valley by
offering services performed by dedicated volunteers.
Santa Clara County Department of Aging and Adult Services
The Department of Aging and Adult Services promotes a safe
and independent lifestyle for seniors, including quality
nutrition and supportive in-home services. In addition,
DAAS assists in the provision of long term care for the
frail elderly.
Santa
Clara County Library Accessible Services
The Santa Clara County Library provides books and
other library materials for seniors who are unable to get
to libraries themselves. The Library also offers materials
and services to make the library more accessible to those
who are visually or hearing impaired.
Santa Clara County Library Senior Services
The Santa Clara County Library offers many services and programs
for persons age 65 and older. These include the "senior
exemption: from fines, special aids, and volunteer opportunities.
Self-Help for the Elderly of Santa Clara County
This multi-service organization
provides a wide variety of programs
ranging from employment/training and social activities
for those who are more independent to in-home assistance
and residential care to those who need it.
